WBU is committed to resourcing grassroots efforts led by and for women, girls, and gender-expansive people directly impacted by carceral systems. We fund, convene, and connect.
What We Do
We fund grassroots efforts organized by and for directly impacted women, girls, and gender-expansive people — locally, nationally, and internationally — and work to grow the total resources flowing to those closest to the work. As a trusted bridge between philanthropy and movements, we bring new and non-traditional donors into relationship with this work.
Fund
We invest in the people doing the work, not just the work itself. That means creating space for leaders to connect, rest, learn from each other, and build the organizational strength to sustain their movements over time.
Convene
We offer our community a co-working space at 401 State Street — our 19,000 square foot Brooklyn home. Community members host events, collaborate, and build relationships with one another. Through shared space and convenings, we create visibility for directly impacted leaders, amplify grassroots organizing efforts, and bring new supporters and partners into the movement.
